Ingredients
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 cup Shortening
- 1/4 teaspoon M-K Poultry Seasoning
- 3/4 cup Buttermilk or Sour Milk
- Shortening for frying
Directions
- In a mixing bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and M-K Poultry Seasoning.
- Cut in the 1/4 cup of shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Create a well in the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk (or sour milk) all at once. Stir just until the dough clings together.
- On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough for 10 to 12 strokes.
- Heat enough shortening in a deep skillet or deep fryer to reach a depth of about 1 inch. Heat the shortening to 375°F.
- To shape each biscuit, cut off approximately 1 teaspoon of the dough and form it into a ball roughly 1 inch in diameter. Flatten each biscuit slightly.
- Carefully place the biscuits, a few at a time, into the hot shortening.
- Fry the biscuits until they turn golden, turning them once. This usually takes about 2 minutes per side.
- Remove the fried biscuits and drain them on a paper towel.
- Serve the Seasoned Fried Biscuits hot.
