1/2 c. Shortening
1 1/2 c. Sugar, granulated
1 tsp. M-K Pure Vanilla Extract
2 Eggs
2 T. Cocoa
2 oz. Red Food Coloring
2 1/2 c. Cake Flour, unsifted
1 tsp. Salt
1 c. Buttermilk
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1 T. Vinegar

Cream together shortening, sugar and M-K Pure Vanilla Extract. Add eggs one at a time, beat well. Mix together Cocoa and food coloring to form a smooth paste. Add it to sugar mixture and beat well. Sift together flour and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk while mixing well. Combine baking soda and vinegar together then add to mixture. Thorough blending of this cake is essential. Pour into greased 9 X 13 cake pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool before frosting.

FROSTING

5 T. All purpose Flour, unsifted
1 c. Milk
1 c. Confectioners Sugar
1 c. Butter or Margarine
1 tsp. M-K Pure Vanilla Extract

Mix together flour and milk. Cook and stir until thickened. Cool thoroughly. Sift confectioners sugar. Add butter or margarine to confectioners sugar and cream until fluffy. Add M-K Pure Vanilla Extract to sugar mixture. Combine flour and sugar mixtures and beat thoroughly.
