Meringue
Meringue is a light, airy dessert topping or base made from whipped egg whites and sugar. It’s a classic way to top pies, particularly lemon meringue pie, and can also be baked on its own to create light cookies or pavlovas. Here’s a step-by-step guide to achieving the perfect meringue using the recipe provided:
Ingredients
- 3 Egg whites (preferably at room temperature)
- 1/2 tsp. M-K Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 tsp. M-K Cream of Tartar
- 6 T. Powdered Sugar
Directions
- In a clean, dry bowl, beat the egg whites, M-K Pure Vanilla Extract, and M-K Cream of Tartar until soft peaks form. For best results, make sure the egg whites are at room temperature as they’ll whip up fluffier.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, continuing to beat until the mixture becomes stiff and glossy, ensuring all sugar is dissolved.
- Once prepared, spread the meringue over a pie or dessert filling, making sure to seal the meringue to the edges of the pastry all around. This will prevent shrinking.
- Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the peaks of the meringue are golden brown.
