Serve them hot with butter, jam, or your favorite spread for a satisfying treat that’s sure to please. This recipe yields about 24 biscuits, making it great for gatherings or family breakfasts.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 cup Shortening
  • 1/4 teaspoon M-K Poultry Seasoning
  • 3/4 cup Buttermilk or Sour Milk
  • Shortening for frying

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and M-K Poultry Seasoning.
  2. Cut in the 1/4 cup of shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Create a well in the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk (or sour milk) all at once. Stir just until the dough clings together.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough for 10 to 12 strokes.
  5. Heat enough shortening in a deep skillet or deep fryer to reach a depth of about 1 inch. Heat the shortening to 375°F.
  6. To shape each biscuit, cut off approximately 1 teaspoon of the dough and form it into a ball roughly 1 inch in diameter. Flatten each biscuit slightly.
  7. Carefully place the biscuits, a few at a time, into the hot shortening.
  8. Fry the biscuits until they turn golden, turning them once. This usually takes about 2 minutes per side.
  9. Remove the fried biscuits and drain them on a paper towel.
  10. Serve the Seasoned Fried Biscuits hot.
